How it works

These are the key steps, in the right order. Answer the short questions; then you see exactly what applies to you and what is added.

  1. 1Get the job offer confirmedAn offer means the training company firmly says yes to you. The Lehrbetrieb is the company where you learn.Key step
    Why?
A casual talk is not yet an offer. It does not lead to a contract yet.
    What you do
Ask the company if it will firmly take you. Find out what the company expects from you.
    Where?
    LehrbetriebDirectly with the named service
    In detail

    Confirm the specific offer first

Without a confirmed offer first clarify the actual employer and its requirements; do not infer registration or contract signing from an informal conversation.

  2. 2Find out which papers the company needsHere you collect papers for the apprenticeship contract. For example your last school report.Key step
    Why?
The company needs the details for the contract. These include the job, start, end and place of training.
    What you do
Ask the company which papers it wants. Bring your final school report and proof of earlier training. Do not order new certificates without a reason.

  3. 3Clear up questions before you signThe apprenticeship contract is the contract between you and the company. It describes your training.Key step
    Why?
Before signing you can still ask questions. The contract costs you nothing.
    What you do
Read the contract carefully. If something is unclear, ask an adviser or the company. Signing and starting work are two different things.

Clarify outstanding contract questions before your signature

Privately review only the actual contract and clarify outstanding questions professionally. Concluding it is free for the apprentice. Written signature and actual training entry differ; the app neither signs nor approves a contract or work commencement.

  4. 4Get your own copy of the contractYour copy (Ausfertigung) is your own version of the signed contract.Key step
    Why?
This way you have your own proof. You see what you agreed on.
    What you do
You get it from the company right after signing. You do not have to wait for the WKO. Check that the start date is right.

  5. 5Check your insurance registrationThe company registers you with social insurance. It protects you, for example, when you are ill.Key step
    Why?
The registration must happen before your first day of work. The e-card, your insurance card, does not show this registration.
    What you do
Ask the company for the confirmation. If it is missing, clear it up at once with the company or the ÖGK. That is the health insurance fund.
    Where?
Lehrbetrieb / ÖGKDirectly with the named service
    In detail

Confirm employer registration before work starts

The employer registers for social insurance before actual work commencement. Clarify missing confirmation immediately with employer and where needed ÖGK. An e-card or existing insurance does not prove this employment filing. No employer filing by the app.

  6. 6Keep track of vocational schoolThe Berufsschule is the school for apprentices.Key step
    Why?
The vocational school is part of the apprenticeship. Time there counts as working time.
    What you do

    Where?
Lehrbetrieb / BerufsschuleDirectly with the named service

  7. 7Check the registration with the WKOThe company reports your contract to the Lehrlingsstelle. It belongs to the WKO, the chamber of commerce.Key step
    Why?
A draft or just sending it is not yet a registration. So you check that the notice has arrived.
    What you do
The company reports within three weeks of the start and tells you. If the notice is missing, ask the Lehrlingsstelle about another way.
    Where?
Lehrbetrieb / LehrlingsstelleDirectly with the named service
    In detail

Clarify employer filing and WKO receipt

The employer files within three weeks of actual commencement with the responsible office and informs you; filing before commencement is possible. A draft or mere dispatch is not positive registration. For absent or late filing clarify an individual substitute filing route with the office.
